Houghton Feast Trophy Road Race

Repeat win for Curran

Commonwealth Games road champion, Paul Curran (Manchester Wheelers-Trumanns Steel) was a convincing winner of Sunday's Houghton Feast Trophy road race at Houghton-le-Spring, with a lone win after 43 miles.

With 13 laps of 3.3-mile circuit to be covered, six riders made an early escape, with Ian Dimmick (Tyne Velo), Gavin Lumb (VC York) and Peter Goodall (Central RC) providing most of the aggression from the break.

Curran put up the fastest lap of 29.1mph to catch the leaders, then, as he has done so many times in the past, headed for victory with three laps to go and his second win in the event since 1983.
