Teesside Cycling Association Hill Climb

Curran soars to hat trick

STOCKTON Wheeler Paul Curran completed a hat-trick of wins in the area's traditional season closer, the Teesside Cycling Association hill-climb.

And he came within one second of breaking his own record for the 800 yard 1:6 Court Moor ascent at Kildale.

In bright autumn sunshine, Curran covered the course in 2min l7sec, to register an impressive win which gave him an almost 30 second margin over runner-up Les Orion of the Ferryhill Wheelers-Dryden Insurance club, who produced a time of 2-45.5.

Harrogate Nova rider Andy Mackay claimed third place with 2-48, ahead of Thornaby CRT-Been Bag's Gordon Pannicca (2-51.5).

Taking the award for the fastest schoolboy in the field, Ferryhill Wheeler Paul Morris found his way into seventh place overall with a time of 3-4.

Cleveland Wheeler junior Richard Hunter claimed fifth place, demonstrating his improving all-round ability by recording 2-53, one second faster than Hartlepool CC's Martin Bourner, in sixth position.
