Curran collects Teesside award

JUST DAYS after returning from the high speed competition of continental Madison racing at Dortmund, Stockton Wheeler Paul Curran won the final event of the Cleveland road season organised by the Teesside Velo at Thornaby.

A move during the second lap of the industrial estate circuit in the hour long race proved decisive as Curran, Dinnington RC's Richard Stevely, Leeds RRC pair Jonathan Clay and Martin Young and Ferryhill WheelerDryden Insurance rider Dave Baronowski broke to be a minute clear by the half distance.

Stevely called it a day after a wheel change and with only Ferryhill's Barry Bussey, Alan Walker of Stockton Wheelers and Leeds rider John Ford taking up the chase, the leaders were left to contest the lap prizes.

Curran led the final gallop to win with Clay second, Young third and Baronowskl fourth.
