Starting an hour earlier than the main event, 43 middle-markers competed for their own prize list, giving two young Hartlepool riders a chance to find their way into the awards.

Finishing behind Manchester rider Gordon Channon (Prestwich Phoenix), who won the event in 1-1-38, were Allan Brown and Ian Barker.

Brown improved by one minute his performance of the previous week to take second place, while another of the clubs schoolboys Ian Barker finished third, 26 seconds behind.

Leading Stockton Wheelers to the learn award, Jim McNamara returned 1-5-19, 50 seconds faster than the clubs 14-year-old schoolboy Paul Curran, in his first 25-mile event. Roy Murray completed their winning combination with 1-7-8.

The area's leading woman rider, June Howe (Teesside Clarion) was placed ninth in 1-7-2.
