Star Trophy Series - 1991

Farrell wraps up Star Trophy

STEVE FARRELL (Tunstall Wheelers-L & M Autos) came away from Buxton with the Star Trophy competition safely wrapped up for the year.

His third place in the Lowther Tour of the Peak gave him an unbeatable lead with just the final leg to come on October 13, the South Western RC event, a 30-mile hilly time trial, near Cranleigh, Surrey.

Taking nine points for his third place Farrell now heads the table with 84 points, 21 points clear of Paul Curran (Manchester Wheelers) who earned four points for his seventh place in Buxton to bring his total to 63.

Wayne Randle (Dinnington RC) moved up the table thanks to second place. He moved to fourth behind Farrell, Curran, and Mark Gornall (Manchester Wheelers), a non-starter at Buxton, with 46 points.

First 10 in the series plus the first 10 in the Jo Bruton women's series, the junior Peter Buckley Reynolds 531 series and the DLB-Peter Fryer veterans series all qualify to ride the South Western RC event along with a selection of top professionals and leading amateurs who have not competed in the Star Trophy series.

The event, sponsored by FW Evans Cycles of Woking with assistance from Reynolds and the British Cycling Federation, is expected to have over £1,000 in prizes.
