Ken Gee Memorial Road Race

Curran leaves them standing

BRITAIN'S top amateur roadman, Paul Curran, of Thornaby, was well in command in Sunday's rearranged Ken Gee Memorial Road Race at Wingate, covering 58 miles overall.

He rode throughout with superb sprinting and climbing abilities to crush the opposition, winning by a handsome two minute margin from Jon Walpole (CC Bowland), with Mick Wright third and Paul Blackett of Tyne Velo sixth.

Walpole and Wright went away early, but the power and strength of Olympic track champion and Star Trophy winner Curran told on the second of the three laps.

In the final "run in" for the chequered flag, Curran, of Manchester Wheelers, was able to ease his way to the finishing line, adding yet another first to his long list of road race successes this year.

RESULTS

1. Paul Curran (Manchester Wh)
2. Jon Walpole (CC Bowland)
3. Mick Wright (Tyne Velo)
