Cooke slips away to victory

An early breakaway group of six provided the decisive move which sent Chesterfield's Alan Cooke to a win in the 70 miles Whitby Wheelers road race.

Curran and Stevenson along with Chris Greaves (Central RC) were again involved in the major action which eventually gave the leaders an advantage of two minutes over the rest of the field.

With a late solo move by Greaves being brought under control, Cooke crossed the finish line three seconds ahead of Curran with Stevenson and Greaves placed third and fourth.
