Ferryhill Wheelers Criterium

Fierce sprint finish

THORNABY CRT-Been Bag's Kevin Byers snatched the first win of the Ferryhill Wheelers-Dryden Insurance Sadberge Criteriums series in a fierce sprint finish.

He crossed the line just inches ahead of Stockton Wheeler Paul Curran who along with Byers had been a member of a four-man breakaway group which had taken charge of most of the 30-mile race.

After working hard to reduce the leaders' advantage during the closing miles, Dinnington RC-Universal rider Richard Stevely was ahead with half a mile left and he grabbed third place as they charged for the line.

Leeds rider Jonathan Clay was the only member of the four-man break to miss a place in the first six as Dinnington's Stuart Morris claimed fourth followed over the line by Donohue and Peter Stevenson of the Middridge CRT.
