Cleveland Wheelers Criterium

Morris & Curran lead the way

GUISBOROUGH rider Stuart Morris (Dinnington RC) outsprinted Stockton Wheeler Paul Curran to win the Cleveland Wheelers senior criterium at Thornaby on Sunday after an early move had established an almost race-long breakaway.

Ian Murray of the V.C. Stockton began the initial move attacking shortly after the start of the opening lap of the one and three quarter mile industrial estate circuit bringing Morris, Curran and Alan Thompson (Thornaby CRT-Been Bag) in pursuit as they powered into the wind-lashed back straight.

Unfortunately the instigator of the move, Murray lost contact as the other three members of the break moved into a two-minute advantage.

Thompson eventually claimed third place as Morris rode to victory ahead of Curran, leaving Manchester Wheeler Gary Cresswell to take fourth position ahead of Thornaby's Dave Thompson and Mark Adamson of the Richmond and Darlington CC.
