Cleveland Wheelers Australian Pursuit

Curran beats the wind and rain

Stockton Wheeler Paul Curran won the final event at Thornaby, during Cleveland Wheelers full day of racing, the 34-mile handicapped Australian Pursuit race after starting in the scratch group.

Almost at the halfway point, the seven man scratch group took control of the race, following some really determined chasing as they faced heavy rain as well as the consistently strong wind.

With Curran, his club-mate Simon Hart, Stuart Morris, Batley's Mark Hepworth, Manchester Wheeler Gary Cresswell and Thornaby brothers Alan and Dave Thompson were the only riders left in contention. Curran took the initiative and lead out up the finishing straight to grasp victory just a yard ahead of Hart as Morris claimed his second placing of the day as he grabbed third position.
