Scalby Road Race

Curran returns with fine style

PAUL CURRAN won his third race in five days in fine style on Sunday when he attacked 13 miles from the finish of the hilly 65-mile Scalby Road Race, organised by Scarborough Paragon.

He increased his advantage to over two minutes at the finish, where his team mate, local hero Pete Longbottom from Malton, won the sprint for second place.

Curran won a fast 20k scratch event at Clairville Stadium on Wednesday after a 90-mile training run and on Saturday he beat a class field at Hetton.

He looks forward to the Tour of the Peaks in Derbyshire next Sunday, his most important race for several weeks, knowing he has good form.

Unfortunately, the race may not be held next year, the Scarborough Paragon, unhappy to be running the race at a loss since the withdrawal of their sponsor last year.
