Curran' s first win

PAUL Curran, the double Commonwealth gold medal cyclist from Thornaby, yesterday pulled off his first win since turning professional.

He outsprinted Darlington's amateur international David Cook, of Ferryhill Wheelers, by half a length at the end of the 45-mile Kent Valley road race near Kendal.

British Students Sports Federation champion John Fiddies was third, 31 seconds behind.

Cook had started his weekend's racing on a winning note in the GS Metro (Newcastle) open ten-mile TT on Saturday.
