Cleveland Division Sprint Championship

Stockton junior clinches first track title

STOCKTON Wheeler junior Paul Curran took his first British Cycling Federation divisional track title at Clairville Stadium on Wednesday.

Peter Stevenson (Hambleton RC) made the opening bid, dropping down from the banking as they entered the back straight in the second lap of the 1,000m title race, but Curran took up the challenge and was well in control 30 yards from the line, followed through by Stevenson with Steven Paulding (Cleveland Wheelers) third.

Stevenson had taken the first event of the evening, the 10-lap scratch, beating Paulding and Curran.

The final of the 500m handicap event went to Andrew Allen (Cleveland Wheelers), holding off Curran and Paulding second and third.

Curran, a member of the North Region Cycling Centre of Excellence, won the junior five-mile event at Scunthorpe, adding a second in the 1-lap scratch and third in the 2-lap handicap race.
